British Council 90th Anniversary Research Fellowships at University of Edinburgh

Applications are now open for the British Council 90th Anniversary Research Fellowships at the University of Edinburgh. These are 12-month postdoctoral fellowships for early-career researchers from developing countries. The programme is fully funded and offers a generous monthly bursary along with travel support.

The fellowships start in January 2027. Selected fellows will spend 10 months at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at the University of Edinburgh and the final 2 months in their home country for knowledge exchange work. Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must be from one of the eligible ODA-recipient countries where the British Council operates.
  • You must have already been awarded a PhD degree
  • Your PhD should normally have been awarded within the last 7 years (career breaks such as parental leave are considered)
  • You should not hold a permanent academic position
  • You should not have held a previous fellowship at IASH
